The probiotics in the Luvbiotics® range are known as Lactobacillus. Lactobacillus reuteri is the strain we blend in our lozenges, due to its proven efficacy in eliminating the bacteria responsible for tooth decay (streptococcus mutans). Lactobacillus reuteri is also proven to treat gingivitis as well.
The effect of probiotic Lactobacillus reuteri in the management of periodontal disease was demonstrated in a clinical study and concluded that L reuteri is effective in reducing plaque, gingival condition and bleeding associated with gingivitis (Jour of oral Microbiology Vo 2,2010 issue1)

Lactobacillus parcasei is the probiotic specially selected for Luvbiotic toothpastes and mouthwash. This probiotic strain offers the best protection available against dental caries and periodontal diseases.

There are number of clinical studies which demonstrate the efficacy of L.paracasei in establishing the bacterial balance for good oral health. A Clinical study conducted by Li-Chuan concluded that L paracasei was effective in reducing bad bacteria and boosting the balance of good bacteria. Oral administration over a period of 2 weeks demonstrated the positive effects of probiotic action (Clin Oral Invest DOI 10.1007)

In vitro studies with lactobacillus paracasei inhibited all periodontal pathogens tested and rapidly reduced the number of periodontal pathogens more than 50% within an hour. Also, bactericidal effect of the probiotic lasted more than 12 hrs.
